Hello....My name is Colin Hicks and I live in Teddington, Middx, UK which is close to Hampton Court between London and Heathrow Airport. I retired in May 2006 from my final civil service post which was Director General of the British National Space Centre.
I was educated at Rutlish School, Merton (1957-1964) and Bristol University (1964-1970). I worked at the University of the West Indies (1970-1973)and the University of Exeter (1973-1975). From 1975 until I retired in 2006 I was employed by the UK Department of Trade and Industry. During that period I held a number of posts including ones at the National Physical Laboratory (1975-1980) and Laboratory of the Government Chemist (1984-1987). I was a member of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) 1994-1999 and 2002-2006. I was awarded a CB in the New Year Honours List 2007 for "services to science". After I retired I was President of Eurisy until stepping down from that role in 2015.
