The following was put on Friends Reunited by Michael Bishop in 2001:

Recently retired after a lifetime (well it seemed like it)in local government/I.T. Married and living in rural Buckinghamshire. We have two daughters and twin grandchildren who were born in March 2001. Time mainly spent with grandchildren and golf course.

Memories by Michael Bishop

My last term at Rutlish was spent in RB who had Mr Rumbell as their form master. I seem to recall a large number of his French lessons consisting of his reading to us (in English!) long extracts from "Three Men in a Boat" with numerous pauses while he had a good chuckle. I may have been a bit behind in French at my next school!

I also remember Mr Rumbell leading us through a maze of thunderflashes and smoke bombs on a CCF trip to Pirbright in a scene very reminiscent of the closing credits of "Dad's Army".

Some time in my final year, the naval bit of the CCF went for a weekend to Gosport to stay with the real Navy. I remember one exercise when us Rutlish lads had to take turns to manoeuvre a small boat alongside a larger one. To achieve this highly complex task we were issued with nothing but a whistle. The purpose of which was to communicate with the Navy chappie operating the steering gear. I think one short blast meant "left hand down a bit" etc. The results were hilarious with a few near capsizes.

I left Rutlish in 1960 and was sad to leave so many friends, but my new school did have one great advantage, it was mixed!
