John Barringer (1954 joining year; Friends Reunited):
Thoroughly nice chap, head of Mostyn Road Junior School annexe and taught maths. Used to arrive at school on what he called his 'velocopede', a circa 1948 New Hudson autocycle. Didn't like bad language and often quoted a little ditty which went:- "Naughty little cus words like dash and blow, lead to longer words which point the way below". Incidently Bobby Oulton, Dan Draycott and Harry Hathway completely failed to get maths across to me in a way that I could understand, although a few years ago my eldest son taught me how to do simultaneous equations in half an hour.
David Uden (1954 joining year; Friends Reunited):
'Who put chocolate pudding in my double bass?' - that was his catchphrase.
As he kept it under the old school stage very adjacent to the dinner-time slop bucket, it could have been almost anyone.
His face reminded you of a partly deflated, old leather football.

John Major (1954 joining year; The Autobiography):
Rutlish and I were not getting on. Some masters, like Bobby Oulton,
the deputy head, and Harry Hathway, who taught maths, remain clear
memories, but most have long since been pushed from my mind; although
we were not mortal enemies, we were certainly not good friends. I avoided
after-school activities because it took too long to travel home. The Combined
Cadet Force did not appeal to me – even apart from the cost of the
uniform. And the lure of wearing a boater in the upper forms was certainly
resistible. It all seemed rather pretentious to me.
Bill Green (1963 joining year; Friends Reunited):
A thoroughly nice chap. He could be easily diverted by being asked to prove on the blackboard that 1 = 2. I only saw him loose his temper once when he escorted us to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Mermaid Theatre, Puddle Dock. We and the rest of schoolboy audience behaved disgracefully by sniggering at the 'ambiguous' bits.
Peter Tietjen (who did not attend Rutlish) says on Friends Reunited: Bernard Oulton was a master at Rutlish sometime in the fifties .....Mr Oulton lived next door to us in Tonfield Road, Sutton, Surrey. I was always impressed with his enormous "guitar" which he carried on the roof of his car (double bass of course) but I was not so keen on his cat - Simon.
