Norman Wells (1961 joining year; Friends Reunited):
Tank, ... I understand was a Japanese prisoner-of-war, which may have accounted for his rather irascible temperament, and his inability to cope with miscreants in his class. I've no doubt we'd treat him better now.
Norman Wells (1961 joining year; Rutlish Memories):
Calm until blowing a fuse, which he did often, suddenly and without warning. Once threw a full milk crate out of a second floor classroom window when his class annoyed him. Very gratifying for those involved, and led to their further and persistent attempts to get him to repeat it. Doubtless, we would treat him better now, however, knowing he had been a Japanese prisoner-of-war.
Roger Doerr (1963 joining year; Friends Reunited):
The milk crate !!! I can vouch for that - I was there! It was about 11 am one morning I was queuing in the cloisters by the gymnasium when this fearful crash occurred. A milk crate had exploded in the quadrangle. Looking upward it could only have come from the the second floor window that was open no other windows were open or broken. The silence that followed was awesome. It wasn't until lunchtime that the story emerged of Tank's anger and complete loss of control. Talk about throwing teddy out of the pram!!!
